Steve Stricker wins at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions
Good news to online golf betting fans who wager on Stricker at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions held in Kapalua, Hawaii. Steve Stricker shoots a final-round 69 and wins the tournament by three shots over Martin Laird.
Steve Stricker never relinquished his lead in the tournament after heading to the clubhouse with the 36-hole lead on Saturday, though his five-stroke advantage entering Monday’s final round dwindled to one on the front nine as Byrd gained ground on the eventual winner.
He eventually settled down and regained control of the tournament, shooting a 4-under 69 on the Par 73 Plantation Course for his fourth consecutive round in the 60s.
The victory moved Stricker up to No. 5 in the world golf rankings and, perhaps more importantly, earned him the early lead with 500 FedExCup points in the clubhouse.
Stricker, 44, has won nine of his 12 tour titles since turning 40. He has finished in the top 10 in each of his last four trips to Maui - three times in the top four. Stricker missed the event in 2009 after going winless in 2008, a year that began with a playoff loss at Kapalua.
"It was tough," Stricker, said greenside after being embraced by his wife, Nicky, and his daughters, Bobbi and Isabella. "I never let up today."
"It’s always tough trying to win and it’s even more tough when you have a lead like I had. I played good though."
"Overall I am very proud of what I did today and this week. And it’s always cool to get a hug from your family walking off after you win."
